Ibn Sina (Avicenna)

He was a Persian polymath who made important contributions to medicine, pharmacology, and early chemistry. His most famous work, the “Canon of Medicine,” was a standard medical text in Europe and the Islamic world for centuries.

Al-Razi (Rhazes)

Known as the “father of chemistry,” he made pioneering contributions to the fields of chemistry and alchemy. He also wrote extensively on medicine and was an early advocate of the scientific method.

Al-Khwarizmi

He made significant contributions to mathematics, particularly algebra. The word “algebra” is derived from the title of his book “Al-Kitab al-Mukhtasar fi Hisab al-Jabr wal-Muqabala.

Ibn al-Haytham (Alhazen)

Often regarded as the father of optics, he wrote extensively on the subject, including the first comprehensive study of the camera obscura. His work laid the foundation for modern optics.

Ibn Rushd (Averroes)

A philosopher and polymath, he made significant contributions to philosophy, medicine, and law. His commentaries on Aristotle’s works influenced European Renaissance thinkers.

Al-Biruni

He was a scholar in various fields, including mathematics, astronomy, and geography. His contributions to trigonometry and his pioneering work on the Earth’s circumference are well-known.

Jabir ibn Hayyan (Geber)

Known as the “father of chemistry,” he made substantial contributions to alchemy and early chemistry. He laid the groundwork for the development of the scientific method in chemistry.
